Suzanne Elizabeth Murphy is an artist, author, educator, and lifelong coral reef lover. As a certified scuba diver and conservation advocate, she has spent years exploring marine ecosystems and transforming her experiences into impactful educational content. Her background as a painter and storyteller brings vibrant visuals and emotional depth to Mirabelle and the Sea Green Bathtub, a project born from her love for coral reefs and her desire to protect them.

Suzanne runs Open Sky Studio & Gallery in Tarpon Springs, Florida, where her art celebrates both natural beauty and ecological urgency. She regularly collaborates with educators, and young readers to promote awareness around marine biodiversity, coral bleaching, and environmental responsibility. Through her writing and visual storytelling, Suzanne helps children connect deeply with the coral reef and become engaged stewards of the planet.

I gave this book to my god grandchildren for Christmas. My 8 year old read to her younger siblings while I listened in awe of her understanding of the beautiful words and reading with such inflections to keep her brother’s and sister’s eyes glued to illustration with full attention to words. What an amazing book, so well written and beautifully illustrated.

The serene colors and captivating sea visuals were incredibly soothing, perfectly complementing the story's inspirational and original narrative. One of the book’s standout features is its glossary, which thoughtfully defines coral reefs and the vibrant marine life that thrives there—a unique and educational touch. This book has the power to inspire children and adults alike, fostering a deeper appreciation and stewardship for our precious coral reefs. The story of Mirabelle is a very special and unique book. It’s beautifully written and the illustrations are so colorful and filled with emotion. As a bonus there is a complete glossary in the back of the book defining words that may be unfamiliar, especially for children. It’s a wonderful fantasy story to read together with children with an important lesson about protecting sea life. I got one for myself, my granddaughter and for the children of some good friends. They all have enjoyed it!

I will share this absolutely fantastic book with my grandchildren today and, hopefully, with my future great-grandchildren. I bought the hardcover book for my grandchildren, ages 4, 5 and 8 last Christmas. The eight year old read it to the other two. They loved the story and with my help it was finished in one sitting, sometimes hard to do for the 4 and 5 year old. They wanted to examine each of the 21 illustrations before the page was read. Now I want to give them the Audiobook so the 4 and 5 year old, now 5 and 6 year old, can hear the author read the book and they can follow it looking at the illustrations. I love the story though it has been a long time since I was a kid.
